Diesel generators for the military: reliable power in the most extreme conditions

During combat operations in modern warfare, a reliable power supply is crucial for successful online battle management.

At each command post, a stable power supply is necessary for communications and the internet, the Kropiva/DELTA combat tactical systems, electronic maps, various managers, the Discord video exchange platform, etc. All this makes it possible to receive real-time data on the state of the battlefield, control unmanned systems, analyze the current state of forces and means to gain an advantage over the enemy.

Without an autonomous power supply, combat missions become more difficult and the risk of personnel and equipment losses increases.

In addition to command posts, medical stations, logistics centers, personnel rest areas, and, of course, combat units must also have a constant power supply.

Key requirements for military diesel generator

  1. Mobility. The power plant must be easily transportable using standard logistics means. For this purpose, the generator is mounted on a car trailer, the drawbar of which must be in the form of a ring, the so-called NATO ring-loop.
  2. Resistance to external conditions. To protect against dust, moisture, vibrations, and temperature changes, the diesel generator must be enclosed in a protective metal casing.
  3. Autonomy. For long-term operation, generators are equipped with fuel tanks of increased volume.
Easy diagnostics and service. Spare parts and consumables must be easily accessible to those responsible for operating the generator or quickly ordered from specialized dealers.
  4. Availability of an automatic start-up device. A generator with an automatic start-up device is a must-have for control centers and military hospitals.
  5. Electrical characteristics. Voltage and frequency stability under load is an important requirement for military power plants. Portable inverter generators with a “smooth sine wave” are usually used to service the equipment of UAV and NRCA crews.

Why diesel generators are the best choice for the military

Reliability and durability. Diesel engines can handle heavy loads and have a long service life when properly maintained.
Fuel efficiency and fuel availability. Diesel fuel is often easier to store and transport, and, most importantly, easier to find in the field.
Ease of maintenance. Diesel engines are widely used in civilian equipment, so their mechanics are familiar to mobilized specialists.
Wide range of power ratings. From mobile units rated at 3–10 kW to stationary units rated at 500–1000+ kW.

Recommended technical parameters (approximate)

Power: determined by tasks — from 5–20 kW (mobile command posts, UAV/NRCA crews, medical stations) to 100–500+ kW (headquarters, bases).
Autonomous operation time: minimum 24–72 hours of operation without refueling.
Noise level: the lower the better, preferably power stations with increased sound insulation.
Cooling type: air-cooled for portable mobile diesel and gasoline engines, liquid-cooled for stationary medium and high-power stations.
Fuel requirements: suitability for use with different grades of diesel fuel.

An example of one of our generators for the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The DAREX ENERGY DE-135IS diesel generator has operated for 8,873 hours without breakdowns or complaints, providing the DShV assault units with stable electricity for all 686 starts.

The IVECO (ITALY) engine and the high quality of DAREX ENERGY generators ensured the reliable operation of the 98 kW power plant.

After nearly 9,000 hours of operation in combat conditions, the DAREX ENERGY generator underwent maintenance by our service engineers and returned to the front line!

How to Reduce Generator Noise: effective ways to lower sound levels

A generator is a useful source of backup power, but its operation is often accompanied by significant noise. This is especially noticeable in private homes, construction sites, or when equipment is used near residential areas. If you are using industrial generators, the noise issue can be even more serious due to their higher power and […]

Three-Phase vs Single-Phase Generators: what is the difference

When choosing a backup power source, many buyers face the question: which generator is better — single-phase or three-phase? At first glance, the difference may seem purely technical, but the correct choice directly affects equipment stability, electrical safety, and generator efficiency. Today, generator equipment is widely used not only by industrial facilities but also by […]

Parallel Operation of Generators: when it is necessary

Modern businesses, manufacturing facilities, and critical infrastructure increasingly depend on stable power supply. Even a short-term power outage can lead to financial losses, equipment downtime, or the shutdown of important processes. That is why many companies use not one but several generators simultaneously. Parallel operation of generators makes it possible to create a more flexible, […]
