Diesel Generator DE-165 IS: 120 kW of Flawless Italian Engineering

The power of 120 kW (150 kVA) is the calculated standard for many infrastructure facilities: from supermarkets to water utility pumping stations. The DE-165 IS model covers this niche, offering equipment that doesn’t just “generate current,” but does so with maximum efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

At the heart of the station lies the engine of the FPT Industrial (formerly Iveco Motors) concern. This is the choice of those who put reliability above momentary savings on purchase.

Engineering Analysis: Why FPT NEF67?

To achieve 120 kW power, we use a 6-cylinder FPT NEF67 series engine. This is a 6.7-liter power unit with turbocharging and intermediate cooling (intercooler).

Three facts about the engine that are important to the chief engineer:

1. Load Acceptance: The engine complies with class G3 according to ISO 8528-5. This means it is capable of accepting 100% load in one step without “collapsing” frequency and voltage. Critically important for working with powerful electric motors and UPS.

2. No EGR: The engine design is optimized to reduce emissions without using complex Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems, which often get clogged when running on domestic diesel.

3. Thermal Management: A highly efficient cooling system allows the generator to operate at ambient temperatures up to +50°C without overheating.

Operating Economics

DE-165 IS is designed to reduce operational expenses (OPEX).

• Fuel Consumption: Thanks to the Common Rail injection system, consumption at 75% load is about ~28-30 liters per hour.

• Service Interval: 500-600 engine hours (depending on oil and fuel quality). This is 2 times less frequent than budget Chinese analogs, saving you up to $1000 per year just on service team visits.

Electrical Part and Automation

• Alternator: Synchronous, brushless, 100% copper. The excitation system ensures a pure sine wave and the ability to withstand 300% short circuit current for 10 seconds (important for tripping circuit breakers).

• Controller: The intelligent Datakom (or DSE) panel features an intuitive interface.

  • ATS Function: Automatic start in case of grid failure.

  • Event Log: Recording of the last 50+ emergency situations for analysis.

  • Remote Monitoring: Optional control capability via 4G/GSM.
